Cydonia Permaculture is offering a Nationally Accredited Certificate III in Permaculture in conjunction with our PDCs, or as a follow-on from a PDC completed elsewhere.

This course will enable students to obtain practical skills to build on the theory introduced during a PDC. The PDC provides a sound theoretical knowledge of permaculture practices and principles but participants generally come out of a PDC itching to get their hands dirty and put what they have learned into practice. Cydonia Permaculture’s Certificate III in Permaculture allows these post-PDC activities and projects to be formally recognised with a Nationally Accredited certificate. Students must have completed, or be currently enrolled in, a PDC.

Enrolling in a Nationally Accredited course, rather than just the PDC on its own, may also open up funding opportunities for some participants. It is recognised by all government agencies including Centrelink.

The Cydonia Permaculture Certificate III will be delivered by a combination of project work, workshops and self-directed learning. The exact weighting of these teaching modes will be decided on an individual basis dependent on the students needs, experience and geographical location.

Students will complete much of their work on projects of their own choice, whilst keeping detailed records for assessment purposes. Some of the participants might choose to work on their own land – say setting up a permaculture system in their backyard or on their farm, or on a community project such as working in a school or community garden. Other options include using a friend's/neighbour's/family's place to establish a permaculture system. Participants are also encouraged to work together on projects – they could hold working bees on their project site then attend others at other sites. For those in Central Victoria, we may be able to do special deals for those working at Gravel Hill Gardens or Tukkadjungul.

Workshops will be provided where necessary for ongoing assessment, practical exercises and further theory, and students are required to keep in regular contact with the tutor and other participants via electronic media throughout the duration of the course.

Payment: The cost for a Certificate III course will be $1500, with a 10% discount for students who have completed or are enrolled in a Cydonia Permaculture PDC. There is also the possibility of a further discount for students completing the majority of their project work with a community organisation such as a community or school garden. Fees may be paid in installments, and there may be some volunteer exchange work available.

DurationThe Certificate III will be 1.5 semesters full time, or up to two years part time.

Units: Certificate III requires that the completion of 15 units (6 core units and 9 elective units). Some of the elective units are an automatic part of the Cydonia course, other units can be chosen according to the student’s needs and interests.
